Changes to appointment booking from Monday 13th April
From Monday 13th April 2026 we are making some changes in the way you will be able to make a GP appointment.
We’re doing this in line with NHS England’s Modern General Practice Access model recognising that we must make the best use of GP appointments.
We know how frustrating it is to queue on the phone or in person to try to make an appointment, and your position in the queue determines your likelihood of getting that appointment. Unfortunately demand exceeds the capacity across the NHS in general and regrettably funding for General Practice hasn’t kept up with the rising costs of delivering healthcare.
From 13th April one of our doctors will triage your request through the eConsult system, and advise you accordingly. This could be a face-to-face appointment or telephone consultation with a GP or Nurse Practitioner, a prescription, advice or navigation to another Health Care Professional such as our physiotherapist, podiatrist, midwife or practice nurse etc, or a even a referral to another provider such as a community pharmacist for minor ailments. The information you provide with greatly assist the clinician to make the decision.
The earlier in the day that you submit your eConsult request, the greater the chance of getting a same day response
In line with the new GP Contract - if the GP determines your need to be urgently then we will respond on the same day.
If you are unable to access the internet or if eConsult is not available, then please telephone the practice, one of our receptionists will complete an eConsult on your behalf ONLY if internet is not available.
Alternatively, you can come to the practice during our normal opening hours and complete a form by hand, this will be added to the eConsult system by a receptionist for the doctor to triage
If, after triaging your eConsult, one of our GPs feel that an appointment needs to be arranged then we one of our team will contact you directly to book or we will send you an electronic booking link for you to make this appointment yourself.
Booking links are great – they let you see all the available dates and times and you can choose the one that works best for you. They’re really easy to use and even remain valid for 7 days from being sent – so if you don’t see something suitable when you first look if you wait until another day you will see if other appointments have opened up.
The new triage system will not impact on the existing pre-bookable non-urgent appointments that we offer
